Petition to Oppose Maryland’s 11% Firearm Tax To: The Maryland House Ways and Means Committee I, the undersigned, strongly oppose the proposed 11% delivery fee on firearms being considered by the Maryland House Ways and Means Committee. This excessive and unfair tax would place an undue financial burden on law-abiding Maryland residents and small businesses while failing to address public safety concerns. This proposal is not just a fee—it is a tax on the right to keep and bear arms. Marylanders already pay sales taxes and federal excise taxes on firearms. Adding yet another financial barrier unfairly targets responsible gun owners and disproportionately impacts middle- and working-class citizens who wish to exercise their constitutional rights. Furthermore, this tax would have negative economic consequences by harming small firearm dealers across Maryland. Increased costs will push consumers to purchase firearms in neighboring states or through online retailers, reducing business revenue and tax dollars in Maryland. We call on the Maryland House Ways and Means Committee to reject this misguided proposal and instead focus on policies that truly enhance public safety—such as improving mental health resources, strengthening enforcement of existing gun laws, and expanding community-based violence prevention programs. By signing this petition, we urge our elected officials to stand with Maryland citizens, uphold our constitutional rights, and vote NO on the proposed 11% firearm tax.
